The Athletic Lab Track & Field Club recently qualified 3 athletes to represent Team USA. The team sent Will Eggers, Jack Flood and Dylan Cooper to the USA Track & Field Outdoor Combined Events National Championships. The event took place in Fayetteville, AR. All 3 athletes competed in the decathlon. The decathlon is a two day, 10 event men’s outdoor track and field event. On Day 1, athletes contest the 100m, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400m. On Day 2, athletes contest the 110m high hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500m. The event is considered one of the best tests of all-around athleticism in sport and the Olympic champion in the event is crowned the “World’s Greatest Athlete.”
The 2022 Outdoor National Championships represents the 9th time the club has qualified multiple athletes to compete. It is the 7th time, the club has had multiple athletes compete in a multi-event. Earlier in the year, the Athletic Lab Track Club qualified 4 athletes to compete in the indoor heptathlon. At the indoor championships, the team placed 3rd, 4th, 8th and 9th lead by Jack Flood.
At the recent USA Track & Field Outdoor Combined Events National Championships, Dylan Cooper lead the team with a 6th place finish followed by Jack Flood and Will Eggers in 7th and 9th respectively. As a result of their placings, all 3 athletes will represent Team USA at the Thorpe Cup later this year. The club previously qualified athletes for the Thorpe Cup in 2011 (Edward Broadbent) and 2019 (Jack Flood).
The Athletic Lab Track Club is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Track & Field club for elite & emerging elite athletes. The Athletic Lab Track Club has a long history of success at the elite level having produced multiple national champions and international competitors. This is particularly true in the heptathlon and decathlon. Athletic Lab Track Club boasts 5 athletes who have won National Championships or Masters National Championships and 1 who has won a Masters World Championship in these events.
