My name is Casey Johns and I am currently a senior at East Carolina University where I am earning my Bachelor of Science degree as a Health Fitness Specialist. Originally born in Tucson, Arizona, my family and I moved all over the nation before finally settling down for high school in Stafford, Virginia. I have one older 25-year-old brother, who attended Western Carolina University and stood out as a Division I baseball player for four years.
I participated in numerous sports while growing up, and like my brother, I too excelled in the sport of baseball. Starting at a young age, I was blessed enough to receive instruction from a number of the nation’s most prestigious baseball coaches. With proper training and a hard work ethic, I spent endless amounts of hours working to perfect my game. The hard work paid off when I received a baseball scholarship from Gardner-Webb University, a small Division I school located in Boiling Springs, North Carolina. Unfortunately, GWU was not right fit for me so I decided to transfer to Lenoir Community College in Kinston, North Carolina, where I was also offered a scholarship for baseball.
After LCC, I made the decision to focus on school, which lead me to become a Pirate. I joined the highly successful ECU club baseball program upon arrival, allowing me to play the game I love, focus on my studies, and hold a job. With a strong interest in sports performance and rehabilitation, I came to the conclusion to follow the path of a physical therapist. This life choice led me to take a job as a physical therapist technician at Peak Performance Sports and Physical Therapy there in Greenville, where I have been for the past two years. I intend to apply to physical therapy school to pursue my doctorate this coming fall and start in the fall of 2015, once accepted. I would like to specialize in sports related injuries, as well as overall sports performance.
I am excited to begin this internship with the Athletic Lab and look forward to learning as much as possible under Dr. Mike Young and his prestigious staff. I believe this experience will give me a great advantage for my future career goals and endeavors. I am also eager to meet the company’s faithful members and help them to achieve their training goals.
