We have so many great members doing such amazing things that sometimes it’s hard to single out just one. That’s why for the month of December we’ve selected our Athletic Lab / Cary CrossFit Performance Fitness Competitive Team. The team consists of about 12 athletes who regularly participate in local and regional fitness competitions. Representing the group for this feature will be Matt Arthur, Sasha Betz, Daniel Jones, Libby Logsden, and Ryan Weber. Click here to see previous members of the month.

Matt Arthur

  • What’s your favorite exercise? Least favorite Favorite: Deadlifts; Least favorite: Turkish Get-ups
  • What do you enjoy most about being on the Competition Team Ryan’s Forearms
  • What competition stands out the most to you and why SuperFit. It’s a very well run event, the workouts are well programmed, and as a team, we always have a good showing.
  • What motivates you Working out as a group, you tend push each other and hold each other accountable.

Sasha Betz

  • Age: 30
  • What city were you born in? Blaine, MN
  • What’s your favorite exercise? Least favorite – Favorite: Pull-ups. Least: Running
  • What do you enjoy most about being on the Competition Team We really support and motivate each other. It’s great to workout with other people who are equally committed and consistent. And it’s cool to see how we’ve collectively progressed since the team’s inception. Also, Ryan Weber’s forearms.
  • What competition stands out the most to you and why? Probably my first one – SuperFit Raleigh in 2014. I wasn’t very good at a double-unders and neither was my partner, so I was worried when we had to do a set of 20 in the WOD. I totally surprised myself when I pulled some DUBs out of somewhere and we got through it!
  • What motivates you? A combination of life balance, habit, and reward.? I find that the stress of the workday melts away when I can focus on something completely different. My workout goals give my something besides my career to find reward in. Being around my friends and teammates immediately puts me in a better mood. Also, showing up at the gym consistently is a habit – it’s just what my husband and I do in the evenings. We miss it when we don’t. And it’s super rewarding to hit that heavy PR or beat your previous time. Going to competitions and seeing all the amazing athletes is very humbling and motivating too – it makes me want to be the best version of myself.

Daniel Jones

  • Age: 39 / Masters
  • What city were you born in Raleigh, yes one of the few remaining locals
  • What’s your favorite exercise Favorite: Deadlifts and sled pushes. Least favorite: Top 3 are running, running and running
  • What do you enjoy most about being on the Competition Team ? When I started on the team, it was really intimidating because everyone was better than me at everything, but through the great coaching, encouragement and guidance from both the coaches and my fellow teammates, I’ve been able to tackle my specific weaknesses and accomplish things I never thought possible. I really enjoy each and every one of my training days with my teammates.
  • What competition stands out the most to you and why ? All are memorable for different reasons, but the one that stands out the most is probably the 2016 Goldsboro Battle of the Boro because 1) It was my first competition that took place entirely outside, 2) for the first time competed in the Masters division with Keith Crowder, and 3) during Finals, a huge storm rolled in. Overhead squats and burpees in a downpour and massive puddles is pretty memorable.
  • What motivates you Trying to keep up with my incredibly active wife, Erica, and daughter, Alexandra, is incredibly motivating.? Also, proving that age is just a number and this old man can still keep up with the kids on a day-in-day-out basis.

Libby Logsdon

  • Age: 22
  • What city were you born in Downers Grove, Illinois (right outside of Chicago)
  • What’s your favorite exercise? Least favorite ‘Favorite: Power Cleans.’ Least favorite: Anything involving running.
  • What do you enjoy most about being on the Competition Team I’ve found that there’s a genuine camaraderie on the team and I absolutely love that. We support each other, push each other, and make each other better every single day.
  • What competition stands out the most to you and why ‘SuperFit Apex stands out to me the most because it was my first competition!!’ I was beyond nervous leading up to the competition, but training with the team was exactly what I needed. When the competition finally got here, I was more than ready because I was prepared and knew what to expect. The entire day was a blast because we were all there supporting each other doing what we love.
  • What motivates you ? There are so many different things that motivate me. I want to be healthy and strong, both physically and mentally. I think my biggest motivator comes from within myself. I push myself to be the best I can be in every aspect of my life. If something doesn’t go the way I want that motivates me to try again next time.

Ryan Weber

  • Age: 30
  • What city were you born in Denville, NJ
  • What’s your favorite exercise? Least favorite Favorite: Back Squat. Least Favorite: Assault Bike
  • What do you enjoy most about being on the Competition Team Getting better every day with a great group of people.
  • What competition stands out the most to you and why Probably the first one I did, which was the Cary SuperFit held at The Lab. It took me forever to do the toes to bar in one WOD and it reminds me of how far I’ve come.
  • What motivates you? The guy or gal on the bar next to me, the hunt for the podium & Drake yelling in my ear.
