Athletic Lab is the training home of professional and elite athletes as well as fitness enthusiasts looking to get in the best shape of their lives. Our community is vibrant and diverse. The common thread across all our members is that they are hard-working and goal-minded.

Each month we highlight one of our members in our member of the month feature. For the month of November, we’ve chosen Daniel Jones. Dan is a dedicated member of our Competition Team and recently had a top finish at the Battle of the Boro competition.

You can also check out our previous members of the month here.

What city were you born in Right down the road at Rex Hospital in Raleigh

What do you do when you’re not working out at Athletic Lab (occupation, hobbies, etc) I’m Vice President of Operations for the Clinical Research Organization PPD based out of Wilmington. When I’m not working out, I enjoy talking about the workouts, trying to recover from the workouts, and buying shoes and equipment for the workouts….and I guess other stuff like smoking meats and drinking beer/bourbon.

What’s your favorite exercise? Least favorite My favorite exercises are those that favor the taller athletes with long arms: wallballs, rowing, deadlifts, strict press, etc. My top 3 least favorite exercises are running, running, and running.

What do you feel has been your greatest accomplishment since you started training Winning a few Masters competitions has been nice, but I think it’s through solid coaching, continuing to complete skills like handstand walks and muscle ups and lifts at 43 that I would have never thought possible when I started. In the last competition, I PRd my clean and jerk at a weight I couldn’t even deadlift when I started at the Lab.

What motivates you in your training This is easily my home fam and gym fam. My wife Erica, daughter Alex, and I push and encourage each other to get better every day. Working out with my gym and competition team family is something I look forward to every day. Despite our varying backgrounds, differences, and ages, we’ve all built strong bonds and friendships that carry us through even the toughest of workouts.
