Athletic Lab is one of the premier performance centers in the country. We have a vibrant and diverse community ranging from fitness enthusiasts looking to get in the best shape of their lives to elite professional athletes. The common denominator across all our members is that they are hard-working and goal-oriented.

Each month we highlight one or more of our members in our member of the month feature. For the month of November we’ve selected Nan Greer Crowley. Nan is a long time member of our Performance Fitness program.

You can read about our previous members of the month here.

Name: Nan Greer Crowley

What city were you born in I was born in New York, NY. I went to school in Boston and I have family in Pittsburgh.

What do you do when you’re not working out at Athletic Lab (occupation, hobbies, etc) When I am not at the Athletic Lab, I work for Flow MINI, the MINI Cooper Dealership in Raleigh. I am called a MINI Motoring Advisor and I am also the MINI Genius. My husband and I moved here from the North Shore of Boston about 4.5 years ago. I haven’t had too much time for hobbies other than exercise. My priorities are my husband and my children. Chris and I spend our time off together having breakfast and dinner, doing weekend chores, and, during the season, watching the NFL games. We’ve two mostly grown children in their early 20s; our daughter is at Wellesley College and our son is a carpenter in Rochester, NY. I make time for reading every day, actual books and audio books. My favorite book this year is the Code Breaker by Walter Isaccson. It’s the story of Jennifer Doudna, Emanuelle Charpentier, and the CRISPR Technology for which they won the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. But if we lived closer to the ocean, I’d be on the water/at the the beach whenever possible; I’ve been a sailor and dinghy racer since high school. I really miss the fresh smell of salt water.

What’s your favorite exercise? Least favorite My favorite exercises are anything abdominal and rowing. My least favorites are pushing the sled/running.

What do you feel has been your greatest accomplishment since you started training
The most significant benefit of training is I’ve learned to just keep going. Being strong and healthy is not lucky. “Luck is a dividend of sweat” both the real kind and the metaphorical.

What motivates you in your training I am motivated by Cate and Mike Young who’ve created an extraordinary space where all are welcome. I am grateful for Coach Beau Hains and the PN Nutrition Coaching Program. I appreciate all of the Athletic Lab Coaches who are kind, compassionate, and quite knowledgeable. Their confidence and expertise make it possible to trust the process and believe that I can do it. And, I am always inspired and motivated by the other people who show up and do the workout with me.
