Athletic Lab is proud to be the training home of professional and elite athletes as well as adults looking to get in the best shape of their lives. We have a vibrant community made up of hard working and goal-minded individuals. Each month we highlight one (or more) of our members in our member of the month feature. For our January members of the month, we’ve chosen Felix and Mariah Melligan. The husband and wife team participate in our Performance Fitness program. You can read about previous members of the month here.
____________
What city were you born in? Northampton, UK
What do you do when you’re not working out at Athletic Lab (occupation, hobbies, etc)? I’m a Solutions Engineer at NetApp during the day, I also develop software in my spare time (websites usually, but it depends what I’m interested in). I’m a bit of a movie buff, so Mariah and I will often be at the movie theatre seeing the latest films. When I’m not at work or at the movies, I’m on my PC playing games!
What’s your favorite exercise? Least favorite – Favorite has to be clean and split jerk. Least favorite is super burpees, but I’m always open to finding more exercises that will kill me!
What do you feel has been your greatest accomplishment since you started training? Whilst attempting some of the (CrossFit) Open, I spent about 15 minutes attempting to do a single handstand pushup and couldn’t manage one. I’m proud that I put myself out there and kept pushing until the time ran out even if I knew I might not be able to complete the workout.
What motivates you? Eating generally. I couldn’t eat the way I do without working out!
____________
What city were you born in? Manchester, TN
What do you do when you’re not working out at Athletic Lab (occupation, hobbies, etc)? I work at Netapp as a Federal Sales and Business Development Rep. I also like to spend time with my dog and husband, volunteer work, and just enjoying the outdoors when the weather permits.
What’s your favorite exercise? Least favorite – My favorite exercise is the snatch, and that’s because I was so afraid of doing it when I first started CrossFit! Know I find it to be a lot of fun! My least favorite is the thruster… It’s a great exercise, but it always takes so much out of me in a WOD.
What do you feel has been your greatest accomplishment since you started training I think finding my passion for fitness again. I lost it, but CrossFit really helped me get that competitive spirit and passion back in my workouts!
What motivates you? Seeing the progress that I make, it’s always nice when you hit a new PR or finally get a movement/exercise!
