For most, taking 1st place at an international sporting event would be enough. Not for Athletic Lab weightlifter Barry Myers. Barry didn’t just take 1st in the International Weightlifting Federation’s Masters World Cup – he also officially set a new American record in the snatch in his respective age and weight class.
Barry has been eyeing to break the American record for close to two years – something he almost did at the 2015 Pan American Masters Championship
Myers placed first in the 69kg weight class (55-59 age group) with a total of 179kg by way of a 86kg snatch and a 93kg clean & jerk. This earned him the top spot on an international podium for the second time this year. In breaking the record and winning on an international stage, Barry joins Athletic Lab masters track and field athlete Jef Souza as a multi-time national champion, international champion, and national record holder.
