Long-time Athletic Lab member Paige West opened her 2016 Track and Field season over the weekend. She competed at the Joe Hilton Invitational at UNC in the 60m dash. Paige ran a new personal best of 8.00 seconds. She barely missed out on the finals finishing in 12th place, just 7 hundredths of second outside the top 8. With Paige being just a Sophomore at Green Hope High School it is impressive that the only athletes to finish ahead of her were collegiate and professional sprinters.
Paige is coming off an excellent freshman season where she qualified for the High School National Championships in the 100m sprint. This season Paige will focus on the 100m and the Long Jump.
Coach Nick Newman was please with her opening competition and had this to say about the preparation leading up to the season:
Our preparation has been successful over the past few months. Paige has set many personal bests in practice and I am sure this season will be a great one for her. These early competitions are for Paige to establish her competition routine and to dust off any cobwebs.
– Nick Newman, MS
Athletic Lab Director of Scholastic Training
Paige will compete again this coming weekend again at UNC.
