This past weekend, Athletic Lab member Andrew Webb, competed in the 2014 Beach2Battleship Full Ironman in Wilmington, NC. An Ironman consists of a 2.4 mile swim, a 116 mile bike, and then finishes with a 26.2 mile run, which is a full marathon. This was the first Ironman for Andrew since losing over 85lbs and dropping down to 20% body fat. Andrew started personal training at Athletic Lab back in May 2012. He was 277lbs and 27% body fat. His mile time was 10:37 on a short track and could do 7 pushups in 2:00. Shown to the right is a questionnaire he filled out on the first day. He was motivated. He wrote down 3rd Ironman as a long term goal. Throughout the past two and a half years the motivation never faded. He pushed hard. Between exercise and proper dieting he was able to reach his goals. Last August, he completed a sprint triathlon at Mayo Lake in Roxboro, NC. At that point he weighed 217lbs. This was just enough to motivate him even further to start training for the Ironman. He kept with his diet and consistent training for the next year. His mile time went from originally 10:37 to now 6:18. Below are his results from the Ironman this past weekend.
Not only did he complete the Ironman, but he performed. The Ironman started off with the swim on the Intercoastal Waterway at 7:30am, and he finished just before 7:00pm in downtown Wilmington. His overall time came in at 11:25, which placed him 126th out of 439 participants. He was 16th for his age group and 2nd in his age group for the swim. Congratulations Andrew on reaching your long term goal! This is a huge accomplishment, and we are excited for your success. Here are a few photos of his progression throughout the years of training at Athletic Lab.
