Members of The Month: Sarah Emmert, Tanya Watson and Barry Myers

For the month of October we recognize THREE of our Weightlifting Team athletes as our Members of The Month: Sarah Emmert, Tanya Watson and Barry Myers. The three members competed internationally at the Masters Weightlifting World Championships in Poland where Tanya finished 3rd and Sarah 6th. You can read more about this special three below. You can also read about our previous members of the month here. -------------------------------- Name: Sarah Emmert What city were you born in? Baltimore, Maryland What do you do when you’re not training at Athletic Lab (occupation, hobbies, etc)? I am a stay-at-home mom to my three sons. I spend a lot of time hanging out with them and taking them to all of their sports practices and games. I love to go out on the weekends with my girlfriends. Traveling internationally with my husband is one of my favorite things to do. I also love reading. What’s your favorite exercise? Least favorite? My favorite lift is the snatch and I love doing my accessory work. I don’t really have a least favorite exercise since they are all necessary to help me reach my goals. Squats and pull ups always feel hard though. What do you feel has been your greatest accomplishment since you started training? I would say my greatest accomplishment since starting exclusively olympic lifting is completing the World Masters competition in Poland. I had a lot of setbacks during the week in Europe leading up to the competition: mentally and physically. I am glad I completed it because it was exponentially harder than I expected it to be. Myers wins Silver at Masters World Weighlifting Championships

Congratulations to the ageless Barry Myers for bringing home a silver medal at the Masters World Weightlifting Championships. The meet took place in Montreal, Quebec and brought together the top masters competitors from around the world. Barry made all 6 of his lifts for a total of 158 kg. Myers lifted in the 67 kg weight class / 60-64 year age division. Barry Myers is a multi-time National, Pan American and World Champion in weightlifting. Earlier in the year, Myers won a National Championship in Salt Lake City. In Salt Lake City, Barry totaled 158 kg total (75kg snatch, 83kg clean & jerk) in the 67 kg / 60-64 year age division. Barry Myers wins Masters Weightlifting National Championship

The Athletic Lab weightlifting team sent two members to compete in the United States Masters Weightlifting National Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah. Long time member Barry Myers brought home a gold medal in the 67kg weight class. Myers is no stranger to the medal stand having won multiple National and Pan American Championships and even once claiming a World Championship at the Masters Weightlifting World Championships in Rovaniemi, Finland. In Salt Lake City, Barry totaled 158kg total (75kg snatch, 83kg clean & jerk) in the 67kg / 60-64 year age division. The meet brings together the top masters competitors from around the country. Barry Myers wins Pan Am Masters

Athletic Lab weightlifting team member Barry Myers just returned from Puerto Rico where he won his 2nd consecutive Pan American Championship. Myers is no stranger to Gold medals having recently won a National Championship in Savannah, GA and a World Championship at the Masters Weightlifting World Championships in Rovaniemi, Finland. In Puerto Rico, Barry took home another weightlifting title 168kg total (78kg snatch, 90kg clean & jerk) in the 69kg / 55-59 year age division. The Pan American Championships brings together competitors from 41 different countries from North and South America. Congrats to the ageless Barry Myers. Member of the Month: Barry Myers

One of the things that makes Athletic Lab so great is our members. And there's no one who embodies that more at Athletic Lab than Barry Myers. That's why for the month of April, Barry has been selected as our Member of the Month. Barry is fresh off another national championship in weightlifting. We're proud of our members and the amazing things they do on a daily basis. The feature will highlight one or more members each month. Click here to see previous members of the month. Name: Barry Myers Age: 57 What city were you born in? Scranton, PA What do you do when you're not working out at Athletic Lab (occupation, hobbies, etc)? I am a software tester at SAS Institute. I write computer code to automate the testing of our statistical software products. Right now I spend most of my free time lifting weights. However, I still occasionally get out and do rock climbing and ice climbing when I can. I became quite good as a climber in the 20 years I took off from weightlifting and even have a first ascent to my name. I also have several other hobbies (too many to list) that I hope to get back them someday when I retire. How did you first hear about Athletic Lab? How long have you been a member? Athletic Lab Weightlifting Team place 3rd at Masters National Championships

The masters athletes on the Athletic Lab weightlifting team travelled to Savannah, GA last weekend to compete in the Masters National championship. The team was represented by four athletes. The team was lead by Barry Myers who kept his stranglehold on national or international championships. Barry won the 55 year old 69kg class with a total of 176kg. This is Barry's 3rd consecutive win at this meet. In 2015 alone, Barry won the Masters Nationals, the Pan American Masters Championships, the IWF Masters World Cup and the Masters World Championships. Athletic Lab Weightlifting Team place 3rd at American Masters National Championships

The masters athletes on the Athletic Lab weightlifting team travelled to Savannah, GA last weekend to compete in the American Masters national championship. Five athletes represented Athletic Lab, with the team taking home 2 gold medals and 1 bronze. The team was lead off by Barry Myers who completed a 'clean sweep' of every available national or international championship available to him in 2015. Barry won the 55 year old 69kg class with a total of 175kg. Earlier in the year, Barry had also won the Masters Nationals, the Pan American Masters Championships, the IWF Masters World Cup and the Masters World Championships. Such a sweep is unprecedented. Athletic Lab's Dr. Mike Young also took home gold in the 35 year old 77kg division. Joining Myers and Young with hardware was James Gold who took home a third place in the 35 year old 105kg division. Team members Andrew Vessey and Brian Burdette also had fine meets. Vessey returned to the national stage after a hip labrum repair and placed fourth with a personal best performance in the snatch. Brian Burdette turned in a lifetime best 101kg Clean & Jerk. Vincent Le brings home bronze medal at USAW University Nationals

This past weekend, Athletic Lab weightlifter Vincent Le brought home a bronze medal at the USA Weightlifting University Nationals in Ogden, Utah. Vince is a visiting lifter who has been training at Athletic Lab while on an internship in the area. He is a student at Virginia Tech. Vince competed in the men's 69kg division and placed 3rd with a 230kg total. Vince hit a 100kg (220 lb) Snatch and 130kg (284 lb) Clean & Jerk. This marks the second year in a row Athletic Lab has been represented at the USA Weightlifting University Nationals. In 2014, Athletic Lab coach John Grace competed in the 77kg class. Vince's medal comes just one week following Athletic Lab weightlifter Barry Myers taking Gold medal at the Masters World Championships in Finland. Barry Myers wins World Championship

Athletic Lab weightlifting team member Barry Myers just won a World Championship at the Masters Weightlifting World Championships in Rovaniemi, Finland. Barry easily took home his 3rd International weightlifting title this year with a 168kg total (75kg snatch, 93kg clean & jerk) in the 69kg / 55-59 year age division. Competitors from Finland and France took bronze and silver. This is Barry's 3rd international gold medal in the last year (he won the Masters World Cup in Dallas last month and a Pan American Championship earlier this year) and his 4th major title of 2015 (he also won Masters National Championships). Athletic Lab Weightlifting Team Success at Pan Am Masters

Athletic Lab weightlifting team members Barry Myers and James Gold recently competed at the Pan American Masters Championships in Savannah, GA. The Pan Am championships is an international competition featuring athletes from 41 different nations of the Americas. Barry Myers took home 1st place in the 55 year old 69kg weight class with a total of 176kg. This title adds to Barry's recent success at the American Masters and Masters National Championships where he likewise brought home gold medals. This sweep of medals is almost unprecedented. James Gold placed 12th in the 35 year old 94kg weight class with a total of 216kg. This marked a lifetime best total for James.
