Comp Team – Members of the Month

Each month, we highlight one or more of our members in our Member of the Month feature. For the month of September, we’ve selected Dean Alaimo, Chase Day, Chris Hoina, Ashley Kitchens, Julia Rao, and Ryan Weber as our Members of the Month. Each of the athletes are members of the Athletic Lab Competition Team. The team is led by Coach Kyrie Furr. On August 3rd, the Competition Team competed at the SCF Summer Slam ’24. Coach Furr also competed. The competition was held at Summit CrossFit in Asheville, NC. The competition consisted of 3 workouts with co-ed teams of two. At the event, the Competition Team had a strong showing: 1st Place Scaled - Chase Day & Julia Rao 3rd Place Intermediate - Dean Alaimo & Kyrie Furr 4th Place RX - Ashley Kitchens & Ryan Weber Athletic Lab is one of the premier fitness and performance training centers in the country. Member of the Month: Adriana Rossini Gravena

Athletic Lab is one of the premier fitness and performance training centers in the country. We have a vibrant and diverse community ranging from fitness enthusiasts looking to get in the best shape of their lives to elite professional athletes. The commonality across our diverse member base is that they are hard-working and goal-oriented. Each month we highlight one or more of our members in our member of the month feature. For the month of February we've selected Adriana Rossini Gravena. Adriana and her family are long time members of our community. Adriana is a vibrant member of our Performance Fitness and Cary CrossFit communities. You can read about previous members of the month here. ____________ Name: Adriana Rossini Gravena What city were you born in? I was born in a small town called Pitangueiras, which is located in the state of São Paulo. What do you do when you’re not training at Athletic Lab (occupation, hobbies, etc)? After a long break, I'm back to work managing a research project. I also really like reading, listening to music, cooking, and of course driving my two boys. I'm actually a soccer mom. What’s your favorite exercise? Least favorite? Favorite is deadlift and squats; my least favorite is pull up and toes to bar What do you feel has been your greatest accomplishment since you started training? My biggest achievement since I started training here was how surprised we can be when we manage to break the PRs and also how it is possible to be consistent and maintain a routine in training. Member of the Month: Ryan Weber

Athletic Lab is one of the premier fitness and performance training centers in the country. We have a vibrant and diverse community ranging from fitness enthusiasts looking to get in the best shape of their lives to elite professional athletes. The commonality across our diverse member base is that they are hard-working and goal-oriented. Each month we highlight one or more of our members in our member of the month feature. For the month of January we've selected Ryan Weber. Ryan is a long time member of our Performance Fitness and Cary CrossFit communities. Ryan has led our Competition Team since its inception. He was selected as the Member of the Month for his recent finish at the War of the WODs in Greensboro, NC where he placed 2nd overall in the men's division. Ryan previously was recognized as our Member of the Month in April of 2019.  You can read about previous members of the month here. ____________ Name: Ryan Weber What city were you born in? Denville, NJ What do you do when you’re not training at Athletic Lab (occupation, hobbies, etc)? I manage research projects for the federal government. I also go to a lot of concerts, golf, travel and sometimes golf when traveling. What’s your favorite exercise? Least favorite? Favorite: Ring muscle ups. Least Favorite: Wall walks. What do you feel has been your greatest accomplishment since you started training? Getting better every year. What motivates you in your training? The accountability and workout variation that the comp team provides. Interesting and challenging workouts that I get to do with a great group of people is what keeps me coming back.

Athletic Lab 2020 / 2021 Holiday Hours

The holiday season has arrived and we have a few schedule changes so that our members and staff can make the most of the season. Please take note of the time changes on the following dates: Thursday, December 24th Athletic Lab will be open from 7 am - 11 am with the following class schedule: 7 am - 11 am Open Gym 7 am Performance Fitness CrossFit 9 am Performance Fitness Endurance 10 am Scholastic Sports Performance Weightlifting Team should contact the head coach Friday, December 25th Closed Saturday, December 26th Athletic Lab will be open from 9 am - 12 pm with the following class schedule: 9 am - 10 am Open Gym 9 am Performance Fitness Endurance 10 am Performance Fitness CrossFit 11 am Scholastic Sports Performance Weightlifting & Competition Teams should contact their respective coaches Sunday, December 27th Closed Monday December 28th-30th Normal business hours Thursday, Dec 31st Athletic Lab will be open from 6 am - 6 pm. We will observe our normal schedule with the exception of our 6 pm classes. All 6 pm classes are cancelled. Weightlifting team training will be scheduled by the head coach. Member of the Month: Shannon Murphy

Athletic Lab is the training home of professional and elite athletes as well as fitness enthusiasts looking to get in the best shape of their lives. We offer an incredibly diverse and vibrant community. The common denominator across all our members is that they are goal-minded and hard-working. Each month we highlight one of our members in our member of the month feature. For the month of December, we've chosen Shannon Murphy. Shannon is a dedicated member of our Performance Fitness program. You can also check out our previous members of the month here. ____________ Name: Shannon Murphy What city were you born in Poughkeepsie, NY What do you do when you're not working out at Athletic Lab (occupation, hobbies, etc) I work in banking operations as an Assistant Manager. When I'm not working or at AL, I enjoy traveling to new places, going to Carolina Hurricanes games, Umstead Park, breweries, photography, spend time with friends What's your favorite exercise? Least favorite Favorite exercise is really any strength movement with the barbell. Least favorite is definitely running...but DB man-makers have become a close second What do you feel has been your greatest accomplishment since you started training Seeing my overall improvement in performance. My lifts are more consistent and heavier, I move faster in WODs and I feel stronger! What motivates you in your training Currently in this pandemic and working from home, it's sometimes the only time I leave the house! :) But on any given day, the coaches and other members are what keep me coming back no matter how tough a workout was. Member of the Month: Daniel Jones

For the month of November, we've chosen Daniel Jones. Dan is a dedicated member of our Competition Team and recently had a top finish at the Battle of the Boro competition. You can also check out our previous members of the month here. ____________ Name: Daniel Jones What city were you born in Right down the road at Rex Hospital in Raleigh What do you do when you're not working out at Athletic Lab (occupation, hobbies, etc) I'm Vice President of Operations for the Clinical Research Organization PPD based out of Wilmington. When I'm not working out, I enjoy talking about the workouts, trying to recover from the workouts, and buying shoes and equipment for the workouts....and I guess other stuff like smoking meats and drinking beer/bourbon. What's your favorite exercise? Least favorite My favorite exercises are those that favor the taller athletes with long arms: wallballs, rowing, deadlifts, strict press, etc. My top 3 least favorite exercises are running, running, and running. Members of the Month: Heather & Brian Johnson

But the common thread across all our members is that they are hard-working and goal-minded. Each month we highlight one (or more) of our members in our member of the month feature. For the month of September, we've chosen Heather and Brian Johnson. The Johnson's are long time members of our Performance Fitness program. Despite our forced facility closure in response to COVID-19, their dedication to fitness and health has stood out. Heather and Brian were among the most dedicated members participating in our outdoor, online and virtual training options. Athletic Lab Reopening Policies & Procedures COVID-19

As always, our member safety and wellbeing are our top priorities and we have taken several steps to ensure that Athletic Lab can provide an environment that meets this goal. You may read the most recent North Carolina guidelines for Gym and Indoor Fitness Centers here. What to Expect Before your Visit Reservations are required in an effort to ensure social distancing and cleanliness. All reservations should be made through our membership management portal. Participation in all sessions requires an active membership (or a paid class drop-in) and completion of a supplemental waiver. Free trial sessions will only be permitted in certain group classes. Open Gym drop-ins are not being permitted at this time. If you have not already done so, please complete the supplemental waiver via on our membership management portal. To cut down on person-to-person contact, we request that online accounts be utilized for payment and digital waivers in advance of any sessions. Arrival & Before Class If you are sick, have a fever, cough or have been exposed to COVID-19, we request that you please stay home. Please limit use of the lobby whenever possible. The mask mandate will be required again starting on 8/20/21 until further notice. Masks are required in the lobby and throughout Athletic Lab's facility. Our public kiosks are closed at this time. Our coaches will be entering attendance for each class. Members will be provided with a sanitized bottle of disinfectant and a sanitized cleaning rag. Please help us by wiping down your equipment. Athletic Lab Outdoor Schedule Changes – COVID-19 [6.12.20]

Athletic Lab prides ourselves on delivering the best possible training experience. While our facility remains forced closed by North Carolina Executive Order, we are expanding our outdoor training schedule. In response to feedback and attendance please note the following changes to our outdoor training schedule. These changes go into effect on Monday June 15th:. Monday & Wednesday 7 am - 7:45 am Endurance (Meet at outdoor training bays, class to be conducted on the turf) 3 pm - 5 pm Open Gym 5 pm - 6 pm CF / Strength 6 pm - 6:45 pm Endurance (Meet at outdoor training bays, class to be conducted on the turf) 6 pm - 7 pm Open Gym Tuesday & Thursday 7 am - 7:45 am Endurance (Meet at outdoor training bays, class to be conducted on the turf) 3 pm - 5 pm Open Gym 5 pm - 6 pm CF / Strength 6 pm - 7 pm CF / Strength Friday 7 am - 7:45 am Endurance (Meet at outdoor training bays, class to be conducted on the turf) 3 pm - 5 pm Open Gym 5 pm - 6 pm CF / Strength Spaces are not guaranteed unless they have been reserved in advance. Participation requires an active Performance Fitness membership and completion of a supplemental waiver. Members may complete the supplemental waiver on their membership management portal.
