Jack Flood’s 3rd place finish at Thorpe Cup leads Athletic Lab Track Club
Three members of the Athletic Lab Track & Field Club recently represented Team USA at the prestigious Thorpe Cup international event. Decathletes Will Eggers, Jack Flood and Dylan Cooper all competed in the dual meet against Germany. Jack Flood finished with 7,977 points to lead the way for the group with a 3rd place finish. The meet represented his second in the USA uniform and his first time on the podium at an international event. Dylan Cooper finished with 7,858 points and a 6th place finish overall. Eggers finished in 11th place overall. The group also had 4 event wins between them: High Jump - Jack Flood (2.08m) 110m High Hurdles - Jack Flood (13.99) Discus - Dylan Cooper (46.94m) Pole Vault - Dylan Cooper (4.71m) The decathlon is a two day, 10 event men's outdoor track and field event. On Day 1, athletes contest the 100m, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400m. On Day 2, athletes contest the 110m high hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500m. The event is considered one of the best tests of all-around athleticism in sport and the Olympic champion in the event is crowned the "World's Greatest Athlete." The three athletes were selected for the team as a result of there placements at the USA Track & Field Outdoor Combined Events National Championships. The club previously qualified athletes for the Thorpe Cup in 2011 (Edward Broadbent) and 2019 (Jack Flood). The 2022 Thorpe Cup represents the 7th time Athletic Lab Track Club athletes have represented the US in international competitions.
