Dan has a PhD in sport science specializing in velocity based training, and strength and power training. Dan was the strength coach for the Brisbane Broncos for nearly 20 years and won league titles in 1997, 1998, 2000, and 2006. Dan also serves as the president of the Australian Strength and Conditioning Association. This podcast will discuss many aspects of velocity based training protocols and his experiences with the technology over the course 20 plus years. Athletic Lab Sport Performance Podcast: Episode #3 – Nick Winkelman

This episode will feature Nick Winkelman. Nick is the Head of Athletic Performance & Science at the Irish Rugby Football Union. He has earned a PhD from Rocky Mountain University with an emphasis in motor learning and sprinting. Nick is formerly the Director of Education and Performance at EXOS where he headed the NFL Combine Prep and worked with athletes from the MLB, NBA, NHL. The episode covers aspects of the demands of rugby and how to meet these demands through speed training, the weightroom, and conditioning. Thoughts on the weekly setups for the off-season and the in-season and the types of monitoring tools the rugby teams are using and how they are implementing and making changes in training based on those tools. Athletic Lab host Canadian Rugby 7s team

This past week, Athletic Lab hosted the Canadian Rugby 7s team for their Strength & Conditioning training. The team was in town to play in Olympic qualifying matches at Wake Med park. Canada is consistently ranked in the Top 10 in the world. Athletic Lab is no stranger to visiting domestic and international teams from a variety of sports. Among the more notable groups we have hosted and / or trained are the US Women's National Team, Miami Baseball, Virginia Tech Baseball, Seoul E-Land FC, and WWE athletes such as John Cena and Big E.

Athletic Lab’s Mike Young educates elite UK performance coaches

Athletic Lab's Dr. Mike Young recently returned from a week in Great Britain educating some of the top Strength & Conditioning coaches in the United Kingdom. His one week stay in the UK began with a coaching session at St. Peters High School in Gloucester. This was followed by an invited visit at Liverpool FC. Liverpool FC is one of the most storied and successful soccer clubs in the world. He then lead a 2 day workshop at Hartpury College for Proformance Strength & Conditioning. Over 40 elite coaches from around the country participated in Dr. Young's workshop: An Integrated Approach to Speed & Power Development. The performance staffs of such notable football clubs as Manchester City FC and Liverpool FC were in attendance. Additionally, representatives from the Strength & Conditioning staffs of 3 of the top 10 world ranked Rugby international teams were present (England #4; Wales #5; Scottland #10). Dr. Young with the England World Cup Rugby Performance Team Following the Proformance workshop, Young travelled to Northampton where he concluded his stay with a private 2 day workshop for the entire England Strength & Conditioning Staff and the Northampton Saints of the English Rugby Premier League. The Northampton Saints were the top English Premier Rugby League regular season team in 2015 and were the 2014 Premiership Champions. Dr. Young regularly speaks and consults both domestically and abroad on a wide range of topics such as sprinting mechanics, speed & power development, and physiological monitoring of athletes.
