Athletic Lab hosts international High Performance Athletic Development Conference

Athletic Lab recently hosted the 2018 High Performance Athletic Development Conference. This is the 3rd year for the annual conference which features top sports scientists and coaches from around the globe. The conference is put on in conjunction with Proformance Strength & Conditioning. This year's conference brought together some of the sharpest minds in the industry. Legendary Track & Field Coach Dan Pfaff gave 4 talks over the 2 day conference. Pfaff was joined by Travis Triplett (President of the National Strength & Conditioning Association), Bob Alejo (Power Lift), James Baker (Aspire Academy in Qatar), and Athletic Lab's Mike Young and Greg Gustin. Olie Trottman of Swansea City Football Club (UK) and Matt Hunter rounded out the lineup with short-form future leaders presentations.

HPAD Conference Success

Athletic Lab in conjunction with UK based Proformance recently hosted the 2nd Annual High Performance Athletic Development Conference. The international conference brought together some of the top coaches and researchers in the world of sports performance and applied sports science. There were over 60 coaches in attendance including staff members from NC State, UNC, Duke, UNC, ECU, ETSU, Campbell, Wake Forest, and more. The conference featured legendary coach and sport scientist Dr. Mike Stone of ETSU. Athletic Lab's Dr. Mike Young and Greg Gustin were also featured speakers alongside Dr. Brad DeWeese or ETSU and the USOC, Dr. Matt Jordan of the Calgary Sport Institute; Ethan Reeve of the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association, and James Baker of Proformance.

A Review of the High Performance Athletic Development Clinic

Athletic Lab in conjunction with UK based Proformance recently hosted the High Performance Athletic Development Clinic. The clinic brought together some of the top coaches in the world of sports performance and applied sports science. There were over 60 coaches in attendance including staff members from the Carolina Hurricanes, NC State, UNC, Duke, UNC, ECU, Clemson, Wake Forest, Ole Miss and more. The featured speaker was legendary Track & Field coach Boo Schexnayder who lectured attendees for over 7 hours over the 2 day clinic. Athletic Lab's Dr. Mike Young and John Grace were also featured speakers. The other 7 speakers were also top notch and delivered outstanding presentations. Compatible and Complementary Training Design by Boo Schexnayder reviewed by Riley Rogers Boo Schexnayder presented on Compatible and Complementary Training Design, focusing specifically on the mesocycle. By shifting the design of the training program every 28 days, the athlete is given the ideal amount of time to adapt neuromuscularly. "The difference between a good athlete and a bad athlete is the nervous system," he stated. Using this time frame, the athlete trains for three weeks and rests for one. He clarified that his concept of "rest days" are high intensity and low volume. As Schexnayder noted, "I can work hard because I rest hard," meaning that rest is of value because it gives the athletes a chance to recharge in anticipation of the coming work weeks. The two day conference will feature some of the best minds in sports performance. The keynote speaker will be Boo Schexnayder. Boo is a master coach who has coached countless NCAA, USA Track & Field, World Championship and Olympic medalists and he is widely regarded as one of the foremost coach educators in the world.
