Athletic Lab to host Special Olympics WOD for Inclusion

Athletic Lab is proud to announce that we will be hosting the 2022 Special Olympics WOD for Inclusion on July 16th, 2022. The fundraising event assists the 40,000 Special Olympics athletes of North Carolina. The event marks the 5th annual Workout of the Day for Inclusion for Special Olympics North Carolina. Special Olympics is the world's largest sports organization for children and adults with intellectual and physical disabilities. They provide year-round training and activities to 5 million participants and Unified Sports partners in 172 countries. Special Olympics competitions are held every day, all around the world—including local, national and regional competitions, adding up to more than 100,000 events a year. Athletic Lab is a long time supporter of Special Olympics North Carolina. 2022 marks the 10th year of the partnership between Athletic Lab and SONC. Athletic Lab has provided training and facility access for the athletes of SONC as well as fund raised for the organization at a variety of events including the last several WOD for Inclusion.

Athletic Lab continues support of Special Olympics NC

For the eight consecutive year, Athletic Lab will support local Special Olympics athletes in their quest for success in sports. Athletic Lab has provided training and facility access for the athletes of Special Olympics North Carolina (SONC) as well as fund raised for the organization. This year, Athletic Lab is hosting virtual training sessions for SONC. In the first of these sessions, almost 500 SONC athletes attended. The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Athletic Lab hosts Special Olympics North Carolina Team National Training Camp

On Saturday January 6th, the staff of Athletic Lab administered a training camp for all of the athletes who will be representing SONC at the USA Special Olympic Games in Seattle. Athletic Lab taught the athletes valuable techniques to improve their performance and reduce their likelihood for injury. Additionally, the athletes were put through a battery of performance tests that their coaches could use to assess their fitness and guide their preparation for Seattle. North Carolina Special Olympics (SONC) is gearing up to compete in the USA Special Olympics Games in Seattle during the Summer of 2018 and they're using Athletic Lab to help them be their best. In preparation for the upcoming summer's national competition, athletes from all over the state of North Carolina recently gathered at Athletic Lab Sports Performance Training Center for a training camp. Over 90 SONC athletes and their coaches from a range of different sports, including: track & field, basketball, bocce, bowling, flag football, golf, gymnastics, powerlifting, swimming, tennis and volleyball participated. "It's always such a rewarding experience and an honor anytime we're able to open our doors to Special Olympics. In association with Special Olympics, I often hear 'Winning is great, but attitude is everything.' This is a great motto for everyone and not just in relation to sport, but in life. It's very refreshing to see the camaraderie of the Special Olympic athletes and the enthusiasm they have for their sport. They don't look at or dwell on limitations, but they're instead focused on what they can do. Athletic Lab supports Special Olympics NC

For the fifth consecutive year, Athletic Lab will support local Special Olympics athletes in their quest for success in sports. Athletic Lab has provided training and facility access for the athletes of Special Olympics North Carolina (SONC) as well as fund raised for the organization. This year, Athletic Lab will host SONC on Fridays at 3pm from March 17 through May 26th. The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Athletic Lab teams pull planes to raise money for Special Olympics

Athletic Lab had two teams raise money for Special Olympics North Carolina by pulling planes at Raleigh-Durham International Airport. The two 5 person teams raised almost $2,000 for the charity. Our first team consisted of Mike Keogh, Jeff Ludwig, Andy Jarvis, Jeff Smith and Zach Krish. Our second team was made up of Devon Jarvis, Christina Walters, Nicole Faucher, Andrea Stamm and Amy Rowland. Athletic Lab has been a long time supporter of Special Olympics North Carolina having been a training site for their powerlifting teams for the past 4 years and regularly participating in fundraisers such as the "Over The Edge" campaign.

Athletic Lab SONC athletes compete at NC Summer Games

Athletic Lab is a proud supporter of Special Olympics North Carolina and provides training services to SONC athletes as part of our community outreach. SONC athletes Dennis Blair & Sam Volk competed at the Special Olympics of North Carolina Summer Games on Saturday, May 31st, 2014 in the sport of powerlifting. Dennis and Sam put on an impressive showing during the event coming in 2nd & 3rd place in their weight classes, respectively. The meet consisted of the squat, bench press, and deadlift. Dennis went 8 for 9 with top weights of 165kg (363.76 lbs) in the squat, 95kg (209.43 lbs) in the bench press, and 175kg (385.80 lbs) in the deadlift. He finished with a 435kg (958.99 lbs) total. Sam went 8 for 9 with top weights of 80kg (176.37 lbs) in the squat, 60kg (132.27 lbs) in the bench press, and 100kg (220.46 lbs) in the deadlift. He finished with a 240kg (529.10 lbs) total.

Athletic Lab athletes dominate at SONC Qualifying Meet

Dennis Blair & Sam Volk competed at the Special Olympics of North Carolina Powerlifting qualifying event over the weekend. Dennis and Sam put on an impressive showing during the event coming in 1st & 2nd place, respectively. The meet consisted of bench press only. Dennis went 2 for 3 with a top weight of 190lbs in the lift. Sam went 3 for 3 with a top weight of 120lb in the lift. Both athletes qualified for the 2014 SONC Summer Games in May.
