Athletic Lab Track Club compete at National level

The Athletic Lab Track & Field Club recently sent 4 athletes to the USA Track & Field Indoor National Championships. All 4 athletes competed in the indoor heptathlon. The 2022 National Championships represents the 8th time the club has qualified multiple athletes to compete. It is the 6th time, the club has had multiple athletes compete in the heptathlon. The heptathlon is a two day, 7 event men's indoor track and field event. On Day 1, athletes contest the 60m, long jump, shot put and high jump. On Day 2, athletes contest the 60m high hurdles, pole vault and 1,000m. The team placed 3rd, 4th, 8th and 9th. Team members Jack Flood and Dylan Cooper battled for top position and both finished with personal bests in the event. They were followed bu Will Eggers and Joe Sheryak. Eggers also finished with a lifetime best. The Athletic Lab Track Club is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Track & Field club for elite & emerging elite athletes. The goal of the club is to help athletes reach their potential and make World Championship and Olympic Games.

Member of the Month: Dylan Cooper

Athletic Lab is one of the premier performance centers in the country. We have a vibrant and diverse community ranging from fitness enthusiasts looking to get in the best shape of their lives to elite professional athletes. The common denominator across all our members is that they are hard-working and goal-oriented. Each month we highlight one or more of our members in our member of the month feature. For the month of February we've selected Dylan Cooper. Dylan is a member of the Athletic Lab Track Club. He recently won a heptathlon at Liberty University. His mark qualified him for the USA Track & Field Indoor Track & Field National Championships and at the time of the event was ranked 5th in the world. The Athletic Lab Track Club is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Member of the Month: Jeff Souza

Athletic Lab is made up of a diverse group of goal-oriented and hard-working individuals. That's why we take a moment each month to highlight one (or more) of our members in our member of the month feature. For the month of April, we've chosen Jeff Souza. Jeff is one of the original members of the Athletic Lab Track Club (formerly HPC Elite). You can check out our previous members of the month here. Born in Brazil, Jeff Souza first met Mike Young in 2008 at a USA Track and Field Level One course at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. He became one of Mike's first athletes to train in the newly formed Athletic Lab HPC Elite group. "I'm proud to be his oldest member," Jeff says of this experience. When asked what his favorite exercise or training activity is, Jeff gave an answer indicative of the type of mindset it takes to be a top-level competitor of any sport. "There is no favorite training activity when you love and respect all of the events I need to master," he said. He does, however, enjoy sleeping to which he states is the most important activity. He added, "All exercises are welcome on my plan, there is no challenge I can't manage to learn and do my best." As for his least favorite part of training? It's controlling the food cravings he has in the afternoon. Jeff has done 30 decathlons in the past 10 years and finished all of them. Athletic Lab Track Club qualifies two for Indoor USA Track & Field National Championships

Two members of Athletic Lab's Track & Field club have qualified for the USA Track & Field Indoor National Championships. Jack Flood and Devin Cornelius have both qualified to compete in the heptathlon. The heptathlon is a grueling seven event competition contested over 2 consecutive days. Only 12 athletes from the entire country are chosen to compete in the event in Albuquerque, NM. Jack Flood is a former collegiate Division 3 National Champion for the University of Cortland and our January athlete of the month. Devin is a multi- time collegiate All-American at UCM and St. John Fisher. Devin is also a coach at Athletic Lab. Both athletes are in their first year of post-collegiate eligibility so their qualifications for a National Championships is a big accomplishment. Competition in the heptathlon begins on Friday, February 16th and you can follow along here. Jack Flood’s USATF National Championship Qualifier Highlights opening meet for the Athletic Lab Track Club

Three members of the Athletic Lab Track & Field Club had strong indoor track season openers at Kent State University this weekend. Lead by Jack Flood, Athletic Lab athletes took 2nd, 3rd and 9th in heptathlon at one of the strongest early season fields in the country. Flood set life time personal bests for his total score (5,460), 60m, shot put and pole vault to take 2nd place overall and qualify for the USA Track & Field Indoor National Championships. Athletic Lab's Devin Cornelius was close behind in 3rd place with a score of (5,079). Devin tied his personal best in the high jump and his Day 1 score. Athletic Lab's Matt Hunter also had a strong showing with a score of 4,728. Athletic Lab's Track & Field Club has a history of success in the multi-events including a previous heptathlon National Champion, 2 different USA Track & Field National Championship competitors, a 3x Masters World Champion and American Record Holder, and 4 different Masters National Champions. For the 15th consecutive year, Athletic Lab's Dr. Mike Young provided sport science services for the athletes at the USA Track & Field National Championships. This year's National Championships served as the Olympic team trials. USA Track & Field is the governing body of track & field in the United States. Dr. Young has served in various official capacities for USATF over the years but has been the USATF biomechanist for the shot put since 2001. During that time, the US shot putters have won multiple Olympic and World Championship medals and the women have set multiple American records in the event. This year's national championships were held at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon.

Athletic Lab’s Mike Young assists USA Track & Field World Championships Team

Athletic Lab's Mike Young just recently returned from 8 days in Narita, Japan where he served as a Sport Scientist for the 2015 World Championship team. Young stayed and assisted the team at daily practices of their pre-World Championship training camp in Narita, Japan. Young has served a variety of roles for USATF over the past 15 years but has been the shot put biomechanist of that entire time. In Japan, Young worked with the shot putters who ended up taking home a Gold Medal and Bronze medal at the World Championships in Beijing, China.

Dr. Mike Young provides Sport Science Services for Elite Throwers at USATF National Championships

For the 13th consecutive year in a row, Athletic Lab's Dr. Mike Young provided sport science services for the athletes at the USA Track & Field National Championships. USA Track & Field is the governing body of track & field in the United States. Dr. Young has served in various official capacities for USATF over the years but has been the USATF biomechanist for the shot put since 2001. During that time, the US shot putters have won multiple Olympic and World Championship medals and the women have set multiple American records in the event. This year's national championships were held at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon. Dr. Young is also slated to join the US team later this Summer as a sport scientist for the pre-World Championship training camp in Tokyo, Japan.

Jef Souza wins 3 National Championships

Athletic Lab Masters Track & Field athlete won three national championships at the USA Track & Field Masters Indoor National Championships held in Winston-Salem, NC on March 20th-22nd. Souza won national championships in the long jump, 60m hurdles and pentathlon less than a month after winning a national championship in the heptathlon in Kenosha, WI. Jef also took second place in the shot put. Souza competes in the 40-44 year old age bracket and is a world champion, multi-time national champion and national record holder. Jef Souza resides in Miami but has been coached by Athletic Lab's Dr. Mike Young for the past 5 years as part of Athletic Lab's correspondence training team and is a regular visitor to Athletic Lab.
