Member of the Month: Elijah Dawes

Athletic Lab is one of the premier fitness and performance training centers in the country. We have an energetic and diverse community ranging from fitness enthusiasts looking to get in the best shape of their lives to elite professional athletes. The commonality across our diverse member base is that they are hard-working and goal-oriented. Each month we highlight one or more of our members in our member of the month feature. For the month of June we've selected Elijah Dawes. Elijah Dawes is a track athlete that has recently committed to NC State Track & Field team, after overcoming a hip surgery through hard work and perseverance. You can read about previous members of the month here. _________________ Elijah with Coach Joe Sheryak What city were you born in? I was born in Blacksburg, VA but now live in Greensboro. What do you do when you’re not training at Athletic Lab (occupation, hobbies, etc)? Video games, going to the movies, I'm a student, graduating from northwest Guilford High school on June 9. What’s your favorite exercise? Least favorite?  Favorite is power clean; least favorite is core exercises What do you feel has been your greatest accomplishment since you started training? I broke 48 seconds in the 400 meter sprint and that was a huge accomplishment,  one that I had been working toward for a long time. Also, receiving a scholarship to run at NC State this fall has been really exciting. I couldn't have done it without Joe Sheryak and Athletic Lab. What motivates you in your training? Being successful in track and field is a big motivator. I set big goals for myself and when I reach those goals it just makes me want to work [...]

Josh Colley places 8th at USA Track & Field Indoor Championships

Athletic Lab Track & Field Club's Josh Colley recently represented the club at the USA Track & Field Indoor National Championships. Colley placed 8th in the long jump. It was his third time competing in a national championship event. Colley qualified for the final of the championships on his 2nd attempt of the meet but was unfortunately unable to finish the competition due to an injury. His best mark was 7.36 m (24'1.75"). The event marked the 5th straight indoor championships with at least one Athletic Lab Track & Field Club (ALTC) member. The Athletic Lab Track Club is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Track & Field club for elite & emerging elite athletes. The Athletic Lab Track Club has a long history of success at the elite level having produced multiple national champions and international competitors. This is particularly true in the jumping and multi-events (decathlon / heptathlon). Athletic Lab Track Club boasts 5 athletes who have won National Championships or Masters National Championships and 1 who has won a Masters World Championship in these events. Athletic Lab Track Club qualifies 3 for Team USA

The Athletic Lab Track & Field Club recently qualified 3 athletes to represent Team USA. The team sent Will Eggers, Jack Flood and Dylan Cooper to the USA Track & Field Outdoor Combined Events National Championships. The event took place in Fayetteville, AR. All 3 athletes competed in the decathlon. The decathlon is a two day, 10 event men's outdoor track and field event. On Day 1, athletes contest the 100m, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400m. On Day 2, athletes contest the 110m high hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500m. The event is considered one of the best tests of all-around athleticism in sport and the Olympic champion in the event is crowned the "World's Greatest Athlete." The 2022 Outdoor National Championships represents the 9th time the club has qualified multiple athletes to compete. It is the 7th time, the club has had multiple athletes compete in a multi-event. Earlier in the year, the Athletic Lab Track Club qualified 4 athletes to compete in the indoor heptathlon. At the indoor championships, the team placed 3rd, 4th, 8th and 9th lead by Jack Flood. At the recent USA Track & Field Outdoor Combined Events National Championships, Dylan Cooper lead the team with a 6th place finish followed by Jack Flood and Will Eggers in 7th and 9th respectively. As a result of their placings, all 3 athletes will represent Team USA at the Thorpe Cup later this year. Member of the Month: Jack Flood

We have a vibrant and diverse community ranging from fitness enthusiasts looking to get in the best shape of their lives to elite professional athletes. The common denominator across all our members is that they are hard-working and goal-oriented. Each month we highlight one or more of our members in our member of the month feature. For the month of June we've selected Jack Flood who recently competed at the USA Track & Field Olympic Trials in the decathlon where he scored over 8,000 points for the second time in a month and placed 9th in one of the deepest fields in US history. Jack is a member of the Athletic Lab Track Club and in 2019, represented the US in the Thorpe Cup. Members of the Month: Sarah Glidden and Ty Grob

The common thread across all our members is that they are hard-working and goal-oriented. Each month we highlight one or more of our members in our member of the month feature. For the month of February, we've chosen Sarah Glidden and Ty Grob. Sarah and Ty are members of the Athletic Lab Track Club and recently turned in performances in the pentathlon and heptathlon which ranked them in the top 15 in the world. My least favorite exercise are reverse lunges cause they hurt my toes. My favorite exercise is Turkish get ups, because THEY'RE GREAT. What do you enjoy most about competing post-collegiately My favorite part about competing post collegiately is that I get to compete against the best in the U.S./World. I love trying to beat the best no matter the odds and the challenge is what makes it fun. Jack Flood’s bronze leads Athletic Lab Track Club at USATF Combined Championships

Two members of Athletic Lab's Track & Field Club recently competed at the USA Track & Field Indoor National Championships in Annapolis, MD . Jack Flood and Will Eggers both competed in the heptathlon. The heptathlon is a grueling seven event competition contested over 2 consecutive days. Points are awarded based on the performance in each of the 7 events. The event is the indoor equivalent of the decathlon. Jack and Will both had banner days and placed 3rd and 8th respectively. Flood set a personal best in the event with a score of 5,714. Will had a seasonal best performance of 5,221. Jack Flood is a former collegiate Division 3 National Champion for the University of Cortland and has represented the US at the prestigious Thorpe Cup. Will is a former Big East conference champion in the heptathlon. The Athletic Lab Track Club has a long history of success in elite level Track & Field in general and the combined events in particular. The 2020 USATF Championship marks the 5th time that the club has placed 2 or more athletes at a combined event national championships. In 2008, Athletic Lab Track Club athlete Eric Broadbent won the event. Additionally, Masters athlete Jef Souza has won multiple national and world championships for the club. Jack Flood represents USA places 4th in Thorpe Cup

Multi-event athlete Jack Flood represented the USA in finishing 4th at the prestigious Thorpe Cup Decathlon in Germany. Flood is a member of the Athletic Lab Track Club. Jack qualified for Team USA on the merit of his 8th place finish in the Decathlon at the USA Track & Field Outdoor National Championships in Des Moines, IA. The Thorpe Cup is an annual international decathlon and heptathlon contested between Germany and the USA. The event is named after the famous Olympic decathlete Jim Thorpe. In Germany, Flood scored 7,601 points on his way to a 4th place finish. The performance marked Flood's third time over the 7,600 point mark in 2019. The Athletic Lab Track Club provides world class coaching and a supportive training environment for post-collegiate athletes as they pursue national and international competitive careers. The Athletic Lab Track Club has a long history of success at the elite level having produced multiple national champions and international competitors. This is particularly true in the heptathlon and decathlon. Athletic Lab Track Club boasts 5 athletes who have won National Championships or Masters National Championships and 1 who has won a Masters World Championship. Most notably, Eric Broadbent won the 2012 Indoor National Championships in the heptathlon with a score of 5,908. Broadbent later went on to compete in the 2012 Olympic Olympic trials. Also, Jef Souza is the current American Masters record holder in the Pentathlon in 2 age categories. Souza has won multiple National and World Championships in the multi-events.

Jack Flood leads Athletic Lab at USATF Championships

Multi-event athlete Jack Flood led the Athletic Lab Track Club with an 8th place finish in the Decathlon at the USA Track & Field Outdoor National Championships in Des Moines, IA. Flood set lifetime personal bests in 4 of the 10 individual events. Jack set personal bests in the 100m (11.07), 400m (50.26), 110m Hurdles (14.04), and pole vault (4.50m) on his way to a personal best overall score of 7,711 points. The decathlon is considered the ultimate test of athleticism. The event is contested over 2 days and consists of 10 events split between running, throwing and jumping disciplines. Jack previously represented ALTC at the Indoor National championships where he placed 3rd in the heptathlon. Athletic Lab Track Club's Nate Bruno also competed in the 400m Hurdles. Jack Flood’s bronze medal leads Athletic Lab Track Club at USA Track & Field Indoor National Championships

Multi-event athlete Jack Flood lead the Athletic Lab Track Club to bring home a bronze medal in the heptathlon at the USA Track & Field Indoor National Championships in New York City. The heptathlon is comprised of seven events and is the indoor equivalent of the outdoor decathlon event. Flood set personal bests in the 60m Hurdles (8.08 seconds) and Pole Vault (4.60m) on his way to a personal best overall score of 5,701 points. Teammate and Athletic Lab coach, Devin Cornelius, also competed in the heptathlon. Cornelius finished in 9th place with a score of 5,267. Athletic Lab Track Club's Nate Bruno competed in the 600m and finished in 1:20.23 seconds. The Athletic Lab Track Club has a long history of success at the national and international level. This is particularly true in the heptathlon and decathlon with 5 athletes having won National Championships or Masters National Championships and 1 having won a Masters World Championship. Most notably, Eric Broadbent won the 2012 Indoor National Championships in the heptathlon with a score of 5,908 and competed in the 2012 Olympic Olympic trials. Athletic Lab Combined Events Athletes Excel

Three decathletes from the Athletic Lab Track Club recently competed in national and international competitions. Devin Cornelius and Jack Flood competed at the Pan American Cup decathlon in Ottawa, Canada. The event took place as part of the Canadian National Championships and featured some of the top multi-venters in North America. Both had strong first days in the 2 day event. After the first day, Devin stood in 3rd place and Flood in 6th place. After Day 2, Flood finished the event in 3rd place with a personal best score of 7,376. This is the second best score in club history. Despite a no-height in the pole vault on Day 2, Cornellius completed the event with a strong overall showing. The club's longest standing and most decorated member, Jef Souza, also turned in a great decathlon. Souza competed at the 2018 National Masters Combined Event Championships where he won the event with the top score (7,055) of all age categories. Jef has been training with Coach Mike Young since 2008 and holds six American records and has won seven World Championships.
